Axle >> Emgard® Transportation Lubricants
Emgard® 7189 BIO 75W‑85
Emgard® 7189 BIO 75W‑85 biobased synthetic gear lubricant is a renewable, full synthetic gear lubricant formulated with more than 58% sustainably sourced plant‑based base oils. This product has all the performance benefits of a premium synthetic axle lubricant, offering reduced traction for improved efficiency and can help reduce operating temperatures. The biobased formulation supports sustainability goals without compromising durability or reliability. This lubricant contains EP additives and is specifically designed for spiral bevel (hypoid) gearing.
Abstract: A newly developed SAE 75W-85 axle lubricant meets both USDA BioPreferred criterion and SAE J2360 requirements while delivering efficiency improvements when compared to commercially available PAO based lubricants. This axle lubricant formulation can help achieve sustainability objectives while providing exceptional performance. In light-duty and heavy-duty vehicle testing, this lubricant achieved significant fuel savings of over 1% and reduced differential temperatures of 5°C. Ongoing field trials in heavy-duty line-haul applications have demonstrated satisfactory durability beyond 150,000 miles. Based on EPA estimates, adoption of this new lubricant could result in significant fuel savings and CO2 emissions reduction, contributing to operational efficiency and sustainability targets.
Abstract: BASF is a leading global supplier of high-performance lubricant additives and Group V base oils. This session will highlight our extensive portfolio of Polyalkylene glycols (PAGs) under the BREOX® and PLURASAFE® tradenames with a focus on our latest innovations. Available as water soluble or water insoluble systems, our PAGs span a broad range of viscosities to meet all your formulation needs. They offer a unique combination of performance properties such as very high viscosity indices, excellent shear stability, and outstanding oxidation resistance. With high load carrying capacity and very low friction, PAGs are an excellent choice to formulate highly energy efficient and long fluid life industrial lubricants for gear, hydraulic, and compressor oils. In response to the fast-growing market of natural gas compression, BASF developed the new water soluble PAG BREOX® 60 D 45. With reduced hydrocarbon solubility, it delivers improved viscosity retention to ensure optimal lubrication.

Abstract: As EV adoption accelerates globally, the development of high-performance, sustainable electric drivetrain fluids (EDFs) has become a key area of innovation. This study discusses formulation strategies that balance sustainability, performance, and cost, including base oil selection, viscosity optimization, and additive technology. The impact of Group III, Group IV, and emerging bio-based base oils on high-speed aeration, cooling, efficiency, durability, life cycle environmental footprint, and total cost of ownership will be highlighted. Selected examples will demonstrate how dedicated EDF formulations based on circular lubricant concept can deliver drivetrain efficiency and long service life while meeting both sustainability and cost targets. Results from OECD301B biodegradability studies will be presented to illustrate environmental trade-offs among base oil chemistries. Up-front lubricant cost remains a critical challenge for adoption.
